Larripa Powers Spiders Past Tribe on Senior Day

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond defeated William & Mary Sunday afternoon, 5-1 to cap off Senior Day festivities. Six seniors, Jess McMeeking, Lainey Nichols, Emma Williams, Madelyn Curtis, Alexa Derr and Lillian Buckwalter, were all honored prior to the start of the game.
Richmond moves to 10-7 on the season with the victory. The Spiders, 4-1 in league action, will close out the regular season Friday, Oct. 31 against crosstown rival VCU, 5-0 in A-10 contests, in a 3 p.m. match up at Cary Street Field with Atlantic 10 Championship seeding on the line.
Williams got the Spiders scoring underway in the third minute of action, when she cleaned up a loose ball that got behind the Tribe goalkeeper.
Clara Larripa kicked off her three-goal day with two in the second quarter. In the 25th minute, she drove to the top of the circle and fired off a shot into the top right corner. Then in the 29the minute, she drove through the Tribe defense fired off a shot that the keeper saved but then put in her own rebound to give Richmond a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
William & Mary broke up the shutout in the 41st minute, cleaning up a scrum in front of the goal.
Larripa completed her hat trick in the 52nd minute, taking a direct insert on a penalty corner play then driving deep into the circle for the flick past the keeper. Larripa now has 16 goals on the season, with seven assists for 39 points which leads the A-10.
Remy Phan collected her second career goal to close out the Spiders scoring in the 54th minute. Larripa sent the ball into the circle, found Emme Hinston-Hasty for the tip to Phan.
Richmond held the upper hand in shots, 20-4, shots on goal, 15-4, and penalty corners, 7-3. UR goalkeeper Amanda Cimillo had two saves while Thea Conomikes collected the third Spider save.
