Spider Field Hockey Falls to Saint Louis, 2-1

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team fell to Saint Louis University, 2-1, Friday afternoon in Atlantic 10 Conference action at Crenshaw Field for the first time in program history.
Richmond, 5-5 on the season and 2-1 in A-10 play, will host Ball State Sunday at Crenshaw Field for an 11 a.m. contest on ESPN+. The Spiders got on the board first when Clara Larripa took a direct insert from Alexa Derr on UR's first penalty corner of the game in the ninth minute of action. Larripa collected her team-leading sixth goal of the season, while Derr tallied her third helper.
UR didn't allow a shot or a penalty corner by Saint Louis (5-4, 1-2 A-10) in the first 15 minutes of action.
The Billikens were able to flip the momentum in the second quarter, tallying the game-tying goal in the 16th minute, then took the lead in the 23rd minute. SLU fired off six shots with three on frame in the period, while the Spiders had five shots in each of the first 15-minute periods.
The second half was a defensive battle. UR held SLU to just three shots, all in the third quarter, while taking being limited to four in the final 30 minutes of action and playing a person down for 10 minutes of the fourth quarter. UR also had five penalty corner chances, including four in the fourth period.
