Larripa Scores Four in Spider Field Hockey Win Over Ball State

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team was offensively led by Clara Larripa's season-high four goal game Sunday, collecting a 5-0 win over Ball State at Crenshaw Field. Larripa now leads the team with ten goals and five assists for 25 points.
This is the second time in Larripa's collegiate playing career she scored four goals in a game. She tallied four goals in five minutes of game time against William & Mary in 2024.
Richmond, now 6-5 on the season and 2-1 in Atlantic 10 action, heads south to take on Davidson, 7-4 on the year and 2-1 league play, Friday, Oct. 10 at Belk Turf Field at 5 p.m. on ESPN+. The Spiders wrap up the road trip in North Carolina Sunday, facing Queens Sunday at 12 p.m. in Charlotte.
Larripa's scoring got going in the first quarter with a one-timer from the top of the circle after a restart by Grace Wiggins at the 25-yard line at the 4:14 mark.
In the second quarter, Larripa tallied two more goals to complete the hat trick. In the 26th minute of action, Larripa got a pass from just beyond the 25-yard line then drove away from the goal in the circle to fire a fadeaway power shot past the goalkeeper. Her second goal of the quarter came of a direct insert from Alexa Derr on the Spiders sixth penalty corner of the half.
Ball State came out of the half with more energy, but the Spiders held them off the board. The Cardinals had the upper hand in shots, 5-4, and corners, 4-2. Richmond goalkeeper Amanda Cimillo posted a season high nine saves in her third clean sheet of the season, with four saves coming in the third quarter.
The Spiders regrouped for the final 15 minutes of action. Larripa's fourth goal of the day came in the 55th minute after Derr sent in a pass from the 25-yard line towards the corner, Larripa drove the ball down the baseline and sent it in low past the goalkeeper's ankles.
Lainey Nichols finished the Spiders scoring day on the seventh penalty corner of the quarter. Derr found Jess McMeeking for the stick stop and Nichols shot found the back of the net in the 59th minute.
Richmond finished the day with 19 shots and 15 penalty corners, while holding Ball State to 13 shots and seven corners.
