Spiders Roll Past Dukes 82-58, Ullstrom Joins 1,000-Point Club

PITTSBURGH – Behind Maggie Doogan's second-straight double-double and Rachel Ullstrom's 21-point output, the University of Richmond women's basketball team notched its 10th-straight win Sunday afternoon on the road at Duquesne, 82-58. With the win, the Spiders picked up their 20th win of the season and improved to 20-5 overall and 11-1 in the Atlantic 10 Conference while the Dukes fell to 15-8 and 6-6 in conference play. Rachel Ullstrom also reached the 1,000-point milestone in the first quarter of the game, becoming the 30th Spider in program history to reach the milestone and the 11th Spider to reach the milestone in three seasons.

How it Happened
Ullstrom opened the scoring for Richmond with back-to-back triples while Addie Budnik added to the lead with two made free throws, 8-0. Duquesne posted its first points of the contest with a trey at the 6:01 mark and followed the play with a free throw to cut the lead to 8-4. Anna Camden then capitalized from deep to build the lead to 11-4, but the Dukes responded on the other end with two points. Alyssa Jimenez joined the three-point party with a triple of her own following a lone free throw from Doogan for a 15-6 lead with 3:25 left in the opening frame. The two teams exchanged buckets before a made free throw and a layup from Duquesne ended the quarter with the Spiders leading by nine, 20-11.
A triple from Doogan would open the second 10 minutes before the Dukes capitalized from deep on the other end to scratch back at the lead, 22-14. Doogan then completed a hoop-and-harm, sparking a 14-0 lead courtesy of Doogan, Ullstrom and Budnik, 36-14. The Dukes ended their scoring drought with a trey from Megan McConnell, but Doogan immediately responded with a trey of her own on the other end for a 39-17 advantage. Budnik would add a lone free throw to end the quarter as the Spiders went into halftime with a commanding lead, 40-17.
Hill opened the third quarter with a layup while Doogan followed the play with one of her own to build a 27-point lead for the Spiders, 44-17. After each team put up two points, Duquesne managed two back-to-back layups to cut the lead to 46-25. Jimenez got the Spiders back on track with a trey, sparking an 8-0 run for the Spiders to build their lead to 54-25. Duquesne again capitalized on back-to-back triples before Camden pushed her point total to nine with a triple, 57-31. Another triple from Duquesne would cut the lead to 57-34, but a 7-0 run for the Spiders would send Richmond into the final 10 minutes with a 64-34 lead.
The Spiders opened the final quarter on a 9-3 run as Doogan, Sweeney and Steph Ouderkirk added to the score line for a 73-37 advantage. A 7-0 spurt from the opposition would cut the lead to 73-44 until Budnik posted a layup to end the scoring drought. The Dukes again managed a 7-0 spurt to scratch back to 75-51, and Alicia Newell posted a lone free throw to hand Richmond the 82-58 win.

Notes on the Game
- The Spiders were paced by Ullstrom, who finished the game with 21 points and eight rebounds. Ullstrom surpassed 1,000 career points in the first quarter, becoming the 30th Spider in Richmond women's basketball history to reach the milestone. She also notched her 50th game in double figures.
- Doogan finished the game with 17 points and posted her second-straight double-double with a team-high 12 rebounds. The double-double marked the ninth of her career and fourth of the season for UR.
- Anna Camden and Addie Budnik also finished the game in double figures as Camden finished with 11 and Budnik recorded 10.
- Ally Sweeney led the team with seven assists while Doogan and Faith Alston added five.
- Richmond picked up its first win in Pittsburgh since an 80-78 output on Jan. 10, 2021.
- The Spiders pushed their win streak to 10-straight games, marking the first 10-game win streak for the Spiders since the program won 15-straight games from 12/29/89-2/10/90.
- As a team, the Spiders shot 29 of 63 (46%) from the floor, 13 of 38 (34.2%) from deep and 11 of 15 (73.3%) from the charity stripe. In addition, the Spiders posted 45 rebounds, 23 assists, five steals, three blocks and 25 points off 14 Duquesne turnovers.
