Spiders Add Loyola Marymount Transfer Will Johnston

RICHMOND, Va. — Will Johnston, a 6'3" guard from Sydney, Australia, will transfer to Richmond and play for the Spiders this upcoming season.
Johnston spent the last two seasons at Loyola Marymount in the West Coast Conference, where he averaged 11.5 points and 2.9 assists per game while shooting 37% from three-point range over 63 games.
Johnston led the Lions to a 17-15 record last year, leading the team in assists per game (3.2), three-point percentage (37%), and free-throw percentage (88%) while scoring 11.9 points per game. His assist-to-turnover ratio (2.59) ranked fourth in the West Coast Conference and 31st nationally.
Johnston scored 11.1 points per game in his first season at LMU in 2023-24 and led the Lions in three-pointers, steals, and free throw percentage.
As a sophomore at Texas-Rio Grande Valley in 2022-23, Johnston averaged 14.5 points, fifth in the WAC, and 3.6 assists per game and shot 44% from three-point range. Johnston ranked 11th in D-I in three-point percentage among those with at least 150 three-point attempts.
Johnston is a career 39% shooter from three-point range and has made 207 three-pointers in his three Division I seasons. He joins Richmond as one of 30 players in D-I to make at least 65 three-pointers in each of the last three seasons.
Prior to UTRGV, Johnston prepped for two seasons as South Georgia Tech, a junior college in Americus, Georgia. Johnston averaged 17.6 points in 2021-22 and 14.3 points in 2020-21.
Johnston came to the United States in 2019 to attend Perkiomen School in Pennsburg, Pa., where he led the team to the PAISAA state semifinals in 2020.
Johnston is the first member of Richmond's 2025 transfer class.
