Spiders Top St. Bonaventure to Advance to A-10 Semifinals

RICHMOND, Va. – The No. 4-seeded University of Richmond women's lacrosse team defeated No. 5 St. Bonaventure 11-8 in the Atlantic 10 Championship quarterfinals Thursday afternoon at Robins Stadium.

With the win, Richmond improves to 11-7 and advances to the semifinal game to face No. 1-seeded UMass. St. Bonaventure finishes the season 10-8.

Grace Muldoon led the Spiders with five points (four goals and one assist), and Colleen Quinn scored four goals. Whitney Liebler, Bridget Lonsinger and Keating Hopkins each added a goal. Alexis Morton tallied two assists, and Juliana Stanley had one.

In goal, Abby Francioli made 11 saves in 60 minutes of play.

The Bonnies opened the game with three straight goals in the first quarter to take a 3-0 lead. At the start of the second quarter, Richmond responded with back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to 3-2. St. Bonaventure led 4-2 at halftime.

In the second half, both teams traded goals, with the Bonnies holding a 5-3 lead. Richmond then scored two straight goals to take its first lead, 6-5. St. Bonaventure tied the game 6-6 by the end of the third quarter. In the fourth, both teams scored two goals apiece, knotting the score at 8-8. Richmond closed the game with three unanswered goals to secure the 11-8 victory.

Richmond will face UMass in the semifinal at noon Friday, May 2.
