Spiders Late Rally Falls Short Against to Towson

TOWSON, MD – The University of Richmond Baseball team fell 7-6 to Towson University Tuesday afternoon at John B. Schuerholz Park after the late inning rally fell short.
Richmond, now 29-17 on the season, will next take on VCU in Atlantic 10 Conference action at The Diamond beginning with a 6 p.m. showdown Friday, May 9 on ESPN+.
Towson took a 6-0 lead through four innings. UR starter Glenn Smith was tagged with four runs, three earned, on four hits, one walk and two strikeouts over three innings of work. Brian Reinke scattered two unearned runs on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts over two and one-third of an inning of work.
Jordan Jaffe put the Spiders on the board in the fifth with a sacrifice fly, scoring Trevor Dosenbach who led off the frame getting hit by a pitch.
Joey Wilga hit his second home run of the season over the left field walk to lead off the sixth.
Reinke got the strike out for the first out of the bottom of the sixth before Dylan Siesky got a fly out and a strike out to keep the Tigers off the board.
Aaron Whitley got hit by a pitch to lead off the seventh and advanced to second on a whild pitch before scoring on Jaffe's base hit through the infield. Brady O'Brien then tied the game at six-all with a three-run home run, his 17th of the season, that landed in the Spiders visitor bullpen in right field.
Siesky (1-1) was tagged with the loss after the Tigers scored the eventual game winning run on a Spider miscue in the bottom of the seventh. He went one and two-thirds of an inning allowing two hits, one unearned run, and struck out two.
Sam Young retired the Tigers in order in the bottom of the eighth, collecting a strikeout.
Richmond got a base hit from Jack Arcamone in the top of the ninth but were unable to extend the rally.
