Spider Field Hockey Falls on the Road to #17 Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The University of Richmond field hockey team fell to #17 Liberty Sunday afternoon at LU Field Hockey Field to move to 1-3 on the season.
Richmond is back in action at Crenshaw Field on Friday, hosting Georgetown on ESPN+ for a 3 p.m. contest.
UR had the first shot on frame less than 30 seconds into the contest, but the Flames got on the scoreboard in the 4th minute of action off a penalty corner.
The Spiders tied the game at 1-all in the 24th minute when Amy Stripling converted a penalty stroke for her second goal of the weekend and season.
Liberty took a 2-1 advantage into the half, scoring in the 29th minute as the Spiders were unable to clear a flurry of shots by the Flames. LU had the advantage in shots 6-2 and in corners 2-0 in the first 30 minutes of action.
The Flames added goals in the 35th minute and in the 47th minute to extend their lead to 4-1.
The Spiders did not back down and kept up the pressure on the Flames defense. Valen Luna Paratore stole the ball, passed it to Sarah Ellis who fed it right back to Luna Paratore in the circle. She scored on a reverse from the left side of the circle in the 55th minute.
UR tallied both corners in the second half as well as four of seven shots in the fourth quarter. Spiders goalkeeper Amanda Cimillo made three saves.
