Dewey Sets Career High as Spiders Earn A-10 Road Win over St. Bonaventure

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – With four players in double figures and a career-high 16 points from Sam Dewey, the University of Richmond women's basketball team picked up an Atlantic 10 Conference road win Saturday afternoon, defeating St. Bonaventure 80-60. Richmond earned its first road A-10 victory of the season and improved to 12-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play, while the Bonnies fell to 10-5 overall and 1-2 in league action.

How it Happened
St. Bonaventure opened the scoring with a 5-0 run before Ally Sweeney got the Spiders on the board at the 7:38 mark with a layup. Rachel Ullstrom tied the game at five with a three, while Maggie Doogan followed with a layup to give Richmond its first lead, 7-5. The Bonnies answered with another 5-0 spurt, but a triple from Tierra Simon again tied the game at 10. After a free throw gave St. Bonaventure a brief edge, back-to-back three-pointers from Sam Dewey helped Richmond take control and build a 16-11 lead with 3:58 left. Rayne Wright and Dewey added layups, while SBU also added four points late as the Spiders led 20-15 after one quarter.
Richmond maintained momentum in the second quarter as Ullstrom answered a Bonnies three with one of her own, and Dewey reached double figures on a layup to extend the lead to 25-17. St. Bonaventure stayed within striking distance, cutting the deficit to eight on multiple occasions, but Doogan and Dewey combined for back-to-back layups to push the advantage back to double figures. After trading baskets late in the frame, Richmond carried a 38-30 lead into the break.
The Spiders opened the second half strong as Simon knocked down a three to make it 41-30. Following an and-one from the Bonnies, Doogan and Sweeney responded with back-to-back triples to extend the lead to 47-33. Richmond continued to apply pressure as Newell and Dewey combined for four points late in the quarter. A jumper from Doogan at the buzzer capped the period and sent the Spiders into the fourth with a 60-39 advantage.
St. Bonaventure opened the final quarter with a jumper, but Doogan answered immediately to maintain the cushion. The Bonnies used a 7-0 run to cut the margin to 14, but Shaneka Campbell ended the stretch with a layup before Doogan sparked another Richmond run. Newell connected from beyond the arc late, and Payton Richard added a three, her first points since Dec. 3, as the Spiders closed out the 80-60 road win.

Notes on the Game
- Sam Dewey posted a career-high 16 points, surpassing her previous high of 15 against Morgan State on Nov. 9, 2024. She reached double figures for the third time this season and recorded her first double-digit output since scoring 12 points against Bethune-Cookman on Dec. 16, 2025. Dewey also added one rebound and one assist.
- Maggie Doogan recorded her 92nd career double-digit scoring game, leading the Spiders with 18 points while adding seven rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal.
- Alicia Newell pulled down seven rebounds and matched Ally Sweeney with six assists to lead the team. Newell finished with seven points and matched a career-high with five steals. Sweeney reached double figures with 11 points and added three rebounds.
- Rachel Ullstrom rounded out Richmond's double-figure scorers with 13 points to go along with five rebounds, three steals and one assist.
- As a team, Richmond shot 32-of-63 from the field (50.8 percent), 14-of-32 from three-point range (43.8 percent) and 2-of-2 at the free throw line. The Spiders totaled 37 rebounds, 19 assists and 10 steals while forcing 13 turnovers that resulted in 11 points.
- Richmond extended its win streak against St. Bonaventure to four straight games.
- Richmond led for more than 34 minutes of game time and never trailed after the first quarter.
