Simon Posts Double-Double as Richmond Cruises at Saint Louis

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – Tierra Simon posted a double-double against her former team with 12 points and 10 rebounds as the University of Richmond women's basketball team rolled to a 92-44 road win at Saint Louis on Wednesday night. The victory lifted the Spiders to 19-4 overall and 9-1 in Atlantic 10 Conference play, while the Billikens fell to 11-14 overall and 5-7 in league action.

How it Happened
Saint Louis opened the game with a layup before Alicia Newell answered with a 3-pointer and a layup off a Billiken turnover to give Richmond an early 5-2 edge. After Saint Louis trimmed the margin to two at the free-throw line, Ally Sweeney knocked down a jumper and Rachel Ullstrom followed with a triple to push the lead to seven, 10-3, at the 6:37 mark. The Billikens responded with a jumper, but Maggie Doogan answered immediately to spark a 7-0 Spider run and a 17-5 advantage. Saint Louis cut the lead to 17-9 before Ava Persichetti closed the quarter with a 3-pointer. A late Billiken layup sent Richmond into the first break ahead 20-11.
Sam Dewey opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer, though Saint Louis answered to stay within nine. Tierra Simon then ignited a 6-0 run as Ullstrom and Rayne Wright converted back-to-back layups to stretch the lead to 29-14 at the 5:03 mark. After a Saint Louis basket, Ullstrom went 2-for-2 at the free-throw line to begin a 9-0 run that pushed the margin to 22, 38-16. Saint Louis added a late 3-pointer, but Ullstrom beat the buzzer with a deep triple as the Spiders took a 41-17 lead into halftime, holding the Billikens to just six points in the quarter.
Out of the break, Simon scored on a layup before Saint Louis connected on two free throws. Simon and Newell then combined for six points to give Richmond a 30-point cushion, 49-19, at the 8:13 mark. After a Billiken layup, Ullstrom knocked down another 3-pointer to keep the margin at 29. Richmond followed with a 14-0 run, sparked by Ullstrom, to extend the lead to 66-23. Saint Louis answered with a triple, but Wright and Doogan combined for four points before Aneisha Scott added three more. The Billikens closed the quarter with a basket as Richmond carried a 73-29 lead into the final 10 minutes.

After two Billiken free throws, Scott finished inside for a 78-33 advantage at the 6:22 mark. Following an exchange of 3-pointers, Saint Louis cut the deficit to 84-42 before Scott added another layup. Shaneka Campbell knocked down two free throws and Rayne Wright completed an and-one before a late Saint Louis basket made it 90-44. Wright capped the scoring with a layup in the final seconds as Richmond secured the 92-44 road win.
