No. 2 Richmond Dominates Delaware 17–5 in Atlantic 10 Opener

Richmond, Va. — The University of Richmond men's lacrosse team opened Atlantic 10 Conference play with a dominant 17–5 win over Delaware Saturday afternoon at Robins Stadium.
Richmond controlled the game throughout and cleared the bench late as 16 different Spiders recorded at least one point in the victory.
Aidan O'Neil (1g, 4a) led the Spiders offensively, followed by Gavin Creo (3g, 1a). Lucas Littlejohn, Cole Hayden and Leo Caine each added two goals. Jack Ricciardi (1g, 1a), Joe Sheridan (1g, 2a), Tanner Huber (1g), Porter Barnett (1g), Charlie Packard (1g, 1a), Connor Kelly (1g) and Gus Abrecht (1g) also scored. Aidan Wooley, Jack Pilling and Jack Dougherty added assists. Connor Knight made eight saves in goal and recorded the assist on O'Neil's milestone goal as Richmond held Delaware to one goal through the first three quarters.
Richmond opened the scoring at the 9:54 mark of the first quarter when Sheridan found the net, giving the Spiders a 1–0 lead after the opening period.
The Spiders broke the game open in the second quarter, scoring six times to take a 7–1 lead into halftime. Huber and Littlejohn each scored during the run, while Creo added two goals and Caine finished a feed from O'Neil.
Late in the second quarter, O'Neil reached a career milestone when he scored the 100th goal of his career with 1:26 remaining, finishing a long pass from Knight. O'Neil became just the fifth Spider in program history to reach the 100-goal mark.
Richmond added five more goals in the third quarter to extend the lead to 12–1 entering the final period. Creo completed his hat trick during the stretch, while Ricciardi and Littlejohn also scored. Freshman Cole Hayden recorded the first goal of his collegiate career during the quarter.
One of the game's more unusual moments came late in the third quarter when defenseman Connor Kelly scored from the crease with three seconds remaining in the period on an assist from O'Neil.
Richmond added five goals in the fourth quarter as Barnett, Packard and Caine each scored. Hayden added his second goal of the game, while freshman Gus Abrecht scored the first goal of his collegiate career with a man-up goal with 47 seconds remaining.
The win continued a strong stretch for the Spiders, who entered the game ranked No. 2 in the Inside Lacrosse, USA Lacrosse Magazine and USILA polls.
With the victory, Richmond opened Atlantic 10 play with a win for the third consecutive season, improved its all-time conference record to 54–12 (.818) and its Atlantic 10 record to 14–2, improved to 7–0 to start the season — continuing the best start in program history — and improved to 17 wins over its last 18 games.
Saturday marked the first-ever meeting between Richmond and Delaware, which joined the Atlantic 10 ahead of the 2026 season.
Richmond returns to action Saturday, March 21 when the Spiders travel to face UMass at noon.
