Spiders Stay Perfect With Win at UMass

AMHERST, Mass. — The Richmond Spiders men's lacrosse team improved to 8-0 for the first time in program history with a 21-7 road win vs UMass Saturday.
12 different Spiders scored, led by Lucas Littlejohn, who registered four goals. Gavin Creo and Aidan O'Neil added three goals each, with O'Neil also recording a team-high four assists.
The score was tied 2-2 five minutes into the game before Richmond ran off the next eight goals to take a 10-2 lead midway through the second quarter. The Spiders defense and goalie Connor Knight held UMass without a goal for nearly 20 minutes before the Minutemen added a pair of extra-man goals late in the first half. UR led 12-4 at halftime.
The Spiders scored the first three goals of the second half, a stretch that put them up 15-4 with 11:46 to play in the third quarter, and the final three goals of the half, building its final margin to 21-7. UR's 21 goals and 14-goal margin of victory were its most in a game since a 22-5 win over St. Bonaventure on March 29, 2025. Entering Saturday, Richmond hadn't scored more than 21 goals in a road game since April 25, 2021 in a 21-8 win at Mercer.
For the Minutemen, 7-2 and receiving votes in national polls entering the game, it was their largest loss since a 25-10 defeat vs UAlbany on March 8, 2014.
Richmond won 21 of 31 faceoffs, including a 15-2 edge in the first half as the Spiders built its lead.
The Spiders doubled up UMass in ground balls (46-23) and shots (45-22).
Richmond is 2-0 in the A-10 this season and has outscored its conference opponents by a margin of 38-12. The Spiders have won all six of its meetings in its series against UMass, which began when both teams joined the A-10 for men's lacrosse in 2023.
