Winebrenner Named to the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Watchlist

WICHITA, Kan. – University of Richmond catcher Dylan Winebrenner has been named to the 2026 Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Watchlist, as announced by the Wichita Sports Commission Wednesday.
Winebrenner is the first Spider since Drew Blakely was named to the watchlist in 2021. Blakely was also named as a semifinalist for the award. Winebrenner is one of four catchers in the Atlantic 10 Conference to be named to the midseason watchlist.
This season Winebrenner leads the team with a .330 average, collecting 37 hits, including eight home runs and 23 RBI for 1.013 OPS. He has collected eight walks and been hit nine times while stealing seven bases in 10 attempts. He leads the Atlantic 10 in home runs, third in total bases (66) and fifth in slugging percentage (.606).
Established in 2000, by the Wichita Sports Commission, the Buster Posey National Collegiate Catcher of the Year Award is presented annually to honor the nation's most outstanding catcher. Posey began his collegiate career as a shortstop, before moving to catcher where he won the 2008 Johnny Bench Award, Dick Howser Trophy and the Golden Spikes Award. In his MLB career with the San Francisco Giants, Posey earned three world series titles, seven All-Star Game selections, five Silver Slugger Awards, the 2010 National League Rookie of the Year, 2012 National League MVP and was a 2016 Gold Glove Award winner.
