No. 23 Richmond Falls to James Madison

RICHMOND, Va. – No. 23 Richmond fell to James Madison 14-9 on Tuesday evening at Robins Stadium. The loss ended the Spiders' nine-game winning streak.

Richmond falls to 11-3 overall, while the Dukes improve to 9-6.

Alexis Morton and Juliana Stanley led the team with four points each on two goals and two assists. Stella Axe scored two goals. Meghan Rode, Charlotte Edwards and Rileigh Meyer each added one goal, and Chloe Conti recorded an assist.

CC Jacobs led the defense, causing two turnovers and collecting two ground balls.

The Spiders scored first at the 13:20 mark of the first quarter. James Madison responded with three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead. After an exchange of goals, Richmond trailed 4-2 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Dukes outscored the Spiders 4-2 to take an 8-4 lead at halftime.

Both teams exchanged goals at the start of the second half, but the Spiders trailed 9-5. James Madison and Richmond each scored two more goals, giving the Dukes an 11-7 lead. In the fourth quarter, the Spiders scored two goals, but the Dukes added three to seal the 14-9 win.

Richmond hosts Davidson on Saturday for Senior Day at 3:30 p.m. at Robins Stadium in the final home game of the regular season.
