No. 23 Richmond Takes Down Davidson on Senior Day

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team defeated Davidson 16-7 at Robins Stadium in the last home game of the season on Saturday afternoon. The earned their eighth straight conference win.

With the win, Richmond improves to 12-3 overall and 8-0 in Atlantic 10 Conference play. Davidson falls to 11-4 and 5-3 in league action.

Alexis Morton led the team with 10 points on five goals and five assists with a 100% shooting percentage. Meghan Rode tallied five points on three goals and two assists. Bridget Lonsinger also tallied five points on two goals and three assists. Juliana Stanley, Charlotte Edwards, Emma Kroneberger, Rileigh Meyer and Stella Axe each tallied a goal. Lindsey Wright netted her first goal of the season. Anya Wardle tallied an assist.

Nine Spiders collected ground balls, and R. Meyer led the team, collecting five draw controls.

In goal, Abby Francioli earned the win, collecting four saves in 34:27 of play. Ally Gouveia collected four saves in 13:43 of play, and Maggie Mullen saw action in the cage.

Richmond led in multiple statistical categories, including an 8-0 advantage in saves, 15-9 in draw controls, 16 for 19 on clears, a 9-8 edge in ground balls and four-for-five in free-position shots.

The Spiders took a dominant start, scoring 12 straight unanswered goals in the first half for a 12-0 lead. At the start of the third quarter, the Wildcats scored back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to 12-2. With another goal by the Spiders making it 13-2, Davidson scored three straight goals to end the third quarter at 13-5. In the final frame, Richmond outscored Davidson 3-2 to seal the 16-7 victory.

Richmond will play its final regular-season game at Duquesne on April 25 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
