No. 22 Richmond Defeats Duquesne for Undefeated A-10 Season

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – No. 22 Richmond defeated Duquesne 21-6 on Saturday afternoon at Rooney Field. With the win, the Spiders captured the program's first outright regular-season championship since the program's inception in 1983. Juliana Stanley also reached the career milestone of 100 goals.

With the result, Richmond finishes the regular season 13-3 overall and 9-0 in Atlantic 10 play, winning the outright regular-season title and clinching the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament. Duquesne finishes its season 2-13 overall and 1-8 in league action.

Rode led the team with 16 draw controls out of Richmond's 23 draw controls won.

In goal, Abby Francioli earned the win, collecting four saves in 30 minutes of play. Maggie Mullen collected two saves in 15 minutes of play, and Ally Gouveia collected four saves in 15 minutes of play.
Both teams exchanged goals in the opening quarter, but Richmond fired off 11 goals to take a 12-1 lead. To start the second quarter, Richmond outscored the Dukes 3-1, leading 15-2 at halftime. The Spiders opened the third quarter with three straight goals, while Duquesne scored late in the period. In the final frame, Richmond scored three more goals but was matched by the Dukes with three goals to close the game. Ultimately, the 11-goal first quarter sealed the win for the Spiders.
Richmond will play Friday, May 1, at Davidson College Stadium in the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship.
