Jacob Dunbar enters his fourth year at the helm of the Spider women’s tennis program ahead of the 2025-26 season. In 2024-25, Dunbar led Richmond to its second-straight appearance in the Atlantic 10 Championship final, guiding the Spiders to a 16-7 overall record and a 6-2 mark in conference play. The team posted a 9-2 record at the Westhampton Tennis Complex, a 5-4 road record, and went 2-1 on neutral courts. Richmond rattled off an 11-match win streak during the season en route to the program’s winningest campaign since the 2008-09 championship team went 17-6.
Under Dunbar’s leadership, the Spiders advanced to the A-10 title match for the second consecutive season, ultimately falling to VCU, 4-1, in the final. He also coached Andrea Campodonico, Lara Bakhaya, and Sofia Barbulescu to Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team honors, as the Spiders continued their rise within the league.
The 2023-24 campaign saw Richmond finish with an 11-11 overall record and a 4-4 conference mark. The Spiders posted a 5-1 home record, 2-9 road mark, and 4-1 record on neutral courts. That season, Dunbar coached Campodonico and Carly Cohen to All-Conference First Team accolades and Leonor Oliveira to All-Conference Second Team recognition.
Dunbar previously served as associate head coach for both the men’s and women’s programs in 2022-23, helping the women’s team to a 10-15 record and a pair of wins in the A-10 Championship. During that campaign, Campodonico and Oliveira earned All-Conference Second Team honors.
As an assistant coach from 2018–2022, Dunbar helped guide the Spiders to two Atlantic 10 Championship final appearances, a semifinal run, and back-to-back winning seasons in 2020 and 2021. He coached his sister, Emily Dunbar, to three First Team All-Conference accolades and the honors of A-10 Most Outstanding Performer and A-10 Most Outstanding Rookie Performer in 2018.
Dunbar also coached standout Spiders including Kiana Marshall, Dessi Zlateva, and Andrea Campodonico to multiple All-Conference honors.
As a player, Dunbar remains one of the most decorated in Spider history. He holds the program record for all-time career victories (105) and single-season wins (32 in 2017). A four-time First Team All-Conference honoree, he was named Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Performer in 2017. He also captured the 2016 ITA Atlantic Regional doubles title and was a finalist in singles.
Dunbar and his wife Emily, a 2016 Richmond women’s tennis alumna, welcomed their son Kal in July 2021.
