Field Hockey Defeats Rhode Island, 3-1

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond sophomore Brittney Parrish broke a 1-1 tied with the eventual game-winning goal at 33:52 of the second half to lead the Spiders in a 3-1 Atlantic 10 win against Rhode Island at Crenshaw Field.
Playing in her final home game, senior Erika Cohen blistered a long shot past the URI goalkeeper to give the Spiders a 1-0 lead at 11:43 of the first half. Junior Jill Murphy notched the first of two assists, while senior Holly Chase also assisted on the goal.
Rhode Island's Heather Scherick tied the game when she scored from right in front of the goal at 4:27 of the first half.
The Spiders took control of the game with two second-half goals. After Parrish gave UR a 2-1 lead off an assist from senior Heather Rice, sophomore Lydia Decembrino capped the scoring when she tucked the ball in the lower right corner with 17:58 to play in the game.
Richmond (9-9, 2-4 A-10) outshot the visiting Rams, 23-10, including a 10-3 advantage in the second half. Rhode Island (5-13, 2-4 A-10) earned six penalty corners to Richmond's eight.
With the win, Richmond moved into position to qualify for the Atlantic 10 Championships played on November 3-4.
