UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- The University of Richmond women's tennis team swept six singles matches and claimed the doubles point to notch a 7-0 victory over West Virginia this afternoon on the campus of the University of Richmond.
At No. 1 singles, Spider freshman Jeannette Cluskey (Minneapolis, Minn./Edna) lost the first set, 3-6 to Ellie Earles, but responded to post a 7-5 win in the second set before sealing the victory, 10-3 in the tiebreaker. Richmond sophomore Jodi Kenoyer (Lighthouse Point, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) registered a straight sets winner (6-4, 6-2) at the number two spot over Helen Adams while Vanessa Bagnato (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) bested Courtney Howell at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-3.
Monika Peets (Tallinn, Estonia/Tallinn Science School) and Casey Cohen (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./The Bolles School) were straight sets victors at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, respectively. Freshman Patty Devlin (York, Pa./York Suburban) completed the singles' whitewash with a 4-6, 7-5 (10-8) triumph at six singles.
Richmond swept all three doubles matches. Cluskey teamed with Kenoyer to garner an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles while Devlin and Michele Koclanes (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) were 8-5 winners at the third spot. At two doubles, Bagnato and Peetes battled back to post a 9-8 victory over Howell and Underwood
Richmond (4-8, 0-1 CAA) next plays at the CAA foe Old Dominion on Tueday, March 27 at 2 p.m.
