Shepard's Two-Hitter Leads Tribe To 5-2 Win

Williamsburg, Va. - Junior righthander Ben Shepard allowed two hits and no earned runs as the Tribe of William & Mary posted a 5-2 Colonial Athletic Association win over the University of Richmond Spiders today at Plumeri Park in Williamsburg.
William & Mary swept the three-game series against the Spiders and improved to 19-9 overall and 4-2 in the CAA. Richmond fell to 10-14 overall and 1-5 in the CAA.
Shepard made his first career start and went the distance, allowing two singles, two unearned runs and two walks. He struck out seven batters in his nine innings of work.
The Tribe scored four times in the second, with the big blow being a bases-loaded triple by senior outfielder Stephen Booker. William & Mary added a single run in the third to lead 5-0.
Richmond scored its two runs in the top of the sixth. Sophomore shortstop David Reaver (Union Bridge, Md./Linganore) and sophomore first baseman Vito Chiaravalloti (Middletown, N.J./Christian Brothers) each reached on errors. Reaver scored on an RBI single by freshman catcher Adam Tidball (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep). Senior DH John Nathans (Warwick, N.Y./Trinity Pawling) had a sacrifice fly that scored Chiaravalloti.
Richmond will play at Virginia on Tuesday, March 27 at 3:00 p.m.
