UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond women's tennis team was defeated by Marshall University Friday afternoon, 6-1, at the UR Tennis Complex. Freshman Courtney Klein (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) picked up the lone Spider point on the afternoon.
It was a rough afternoon for the Spiders as they began the day losing all three doubles matches and falling behind 1-0. Richmond picked up its point at the No. 5 position as Klein defeated Joelle Good, 6-0, 6-2. The freshman has won three of her past four matches. Juniors Vanessa Bagnato (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) and Casey Cohen (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./The Bolles School) each extended their matches past two sets, but fell at the No.s 2 and 4 spots, respectively.
Richmond (8-9) plays its final match of the season on Thursday, April 11, versus James Madison at 2:30 p.m. at the UR Tennis Complex. The Spiders then head to College Park, Md. for the Atlantic 10 Championships on April 19-21.
