UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Five University of Richmond student-athletes received weekly Atlantic 10 honors for their performances last week as announced today by the conference. Senior Megan Cox was named women's soccer co-Player of the Week while sophomore Colin Vint was named co-Player of the Week for men's soccer. Freshman Inge van Bogerijen received field hockey's Rookie of the Week honors and senior Kyle Hess and freshman Jon Pelet were honored as men's golf Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Van Bogerijen (Zeist, The Netherlands) earned her second weekly honor after she led the Spiders to two conference victories this weekend. The midfielder scored one goal in Richmond's 4-1 win over Rhode Island on Friday and recorded two more goals, including the game-winner, as the #14 Spiders defeated Massachusetts 5-1 on Sunday. Bogerijen has tallied eight goals and four assists for Richmond as they remain undefeated in the Atlantic 10.
Vint (Fairfax, Va.) scored both of the Spiders' goals in last weekend's Atlantic 10 victories, including a 1-0 win over #8 Dayton on Sunday. He currently leads the squad with six goals for a team-high 12 points. Vint has scored in each of Richmond's last four contests.
Cox (Raleigh, N.C.) with five shutouts on the season, recorded two against a pair of Atlantic 10 opponents this past weekend. Cox made two saves in a 2-0 win over Xavier and three saves in a 1-0 shutout of Dayton. The shutouts were Xavier and Dayton's first conference shutouts of the season and this was Dayton's first shutout by a non-ranked opponent this year.
Hess (Buffalo, N.Y.) earned his first conference honor after recording consecutive Top 10 finishes last week. At Xavier's Provident Invitational, he shot a three-under-par 139 on 36 holes to lead the Spiders to a seventh place finish. Over the weekend, Hess tied for fourth at the Big 5 Invitational after shooting matching 74s (148 total) in the two-day event in which the Spiders placed a season-best third. He currently ranks second on the squad with a 72.8 scoring average.
Continuing a strong rookie season, Pelet (Atglen, Pa.) recorded two Top 20 finishes in last week's tournaments. In the Xavier Invitational, Pelet's one-under-par 141 placed him 16th in the event. He shot a pair of 75s in the Big 5 Invitational to place eighth, his third Top 10 finish of the year. Pelet leads the team with a 71.6 scoring average.
