UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond field hockey team has announced its 2003 fall schedule and will face a demanding slate of opponents as they look to repeat their Atlantic 10 conference title. The Spiders will play 12 non-conference opponents, including five squads that finished the 2002 season among the Top-20 in the STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll, in addition to their six league contests.
The Spiders hit the turf in August when they take on Vermont in their home opener on August 31 to kick off a three-game home stand. The Spiders' first away contest comes on September 10 as they face Stanford in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Next up, Richmond plays back-to-back games against two 2002 NCAA Tournament participants. The Spiders host William and Mary on Sunday, September 19, and the following weekend take on Harvard at University of Maryland.
After an away date with state rival Virginia on September 24, Richmond concludes the month traveling to Harrisonburg to face James Madison.
The Spiders kick off conference play facing West Chester on October 10 and end the league slate on October 26 when they host Saint Joseph's. Richmond ends its regular season with a home contest against the Duke Blue Devils, who ranked 10th in the 2002 final poll.
The Atlantic 10 Championships will be held November 7-8 at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
