No. 13 Baseball Splits with Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Junior Adam Tidball (Bethesda, Md.) launched a two-run bomb in Richmond's 5-1 win over Duquesne. The Spiders lost the second game of the doubleheader 3-1. Richmond's record now stands at 41-11, 18-4 Atlantic 10 and Duquesne's record is 25-26, 15-8 A-10.
In the first frame of the first game, third baseman Ben Zeskind (Miami, Fla.) drew a two-out walk and then stole second. First baseman Jim Fasano (Horsham, Pa.) followed with a RBI single to right field, sending Zeskind home.
Duquesne responded to Richmond's 1-0 lead in its half, tying the game at 1-1. Andy Gallina singled up the middle to send shortstop Dan Schwartzbauer home.
The Spiders took the lead in the fourth, 3-1, scoring two runs. Rightfielder Vito Chiaravalloti (Middletown, N.J.) stroked a single before reaching second on a Michael Galligan (Woodbury, N.Y.) fielder's choice bunt. Chiaravalloti then took third on a failed pickoff attempt error and home on a throwing error by Chad Williams. Galligan added the third run on Tidball sacrifice fly.
Tidball ripped a two-run shot over the left centerfield fence in the sixth for a 5-1 Richmond lead.
In the second game, Richmond put the first run on the scoreboard in the second. Chiaravalloti led off with a single up the middle. Galligan then belted a double down the left field line to put runners at second and third. Chiaravalloti touched home on a Tidball groundout to take a 1-0 lead.
The Dukes responded in their half of the second to take a 2-1 run lead over Richmond. Schwartzbauer stroked a two-RBI single for the Duquesne advantage. They added another run in the third for a 3-1 lead over Richmond.
Senior Mike McGirr (Lexington, Mass.) improved to 7-1. He struck out three and allowed four hits in the complete game. Sophomore Jason Bolinski (Hockessin, Del.) suffered his first loss of the year falling to 8-1 after striking out five and allowing six hits. Duquesne's Bob Reifschneider (6-5) took the loss and Adam Haun (5-4) earned the win.
The Spiders conclude the series with Duquesne tomorrow, Sunday, May 11 at Noon.
