First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+. Prior to the start of the game, the 40th anniversary of 1986 CAA Championship team will be recognized as part of Alumni Weekend.
Dylan Winebrenner put the Spiders on the board in the first with a solo home to deep right field for his team-leading 14th home run of the season.
In the second inning, Evan Wilson hit a two-out double to right to score RJ Rickabaugh for the Spiders other run.
And Topolski kept VCU from getting past second base for six innings. He scattered three hits, five walk, a hit batter and two strikeouts while on the mound. Topolski got out of some tougher innings with some huge double plays.
Topolski got his second strikeout in the third, then Rickabaugh threw out the VCU runner trying to steal with a strike to Aidan O'Keefe at third base to end the frame and scoring threat.

Justin Gay took over in the seventh, retiring the Rams in order. VCU got a run off Gay in the eighth, a solo home run. Gay retired the first batter in the ninth, then passed the ball to Dom Ruggiero. Ruggiero got a line out to O'Keefe at third, walked a batter, then got the fly out to left to capture his second save of the season.
