Richmond Receives Weekly Atlantic 10 Accolades

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va.-Five student-athletes from the University of Richmond were selected to the Atlantic 10's weekly honor roll, as announced today by the league. Senior Lyndsey Webber was selected as cross country's Performer of the Week, while freshmen John Ciccarelli and Amanda Russell were named Rookies of the Week. Sophomore Whitney Wells received field hockey's Player of the Week honor and teammate Inge van Bogerijen was chosen as co-Rookie of the Week.
Wells (Clayton, Del.) scored three goals and added one assist in the Spiders' two wins this week. The forward tallied two goals, including the game-winner, in a 5-2 win against Stanford on Wednesday, and then recorded one goal and one assist in a 4-1 win against No. 13 William & Mary on Sunday. Wells has started all five match-ups and leads the team with four goals.
van Bogerijen (Zeist, The Netherlands) scored her first collegiate goal in Richmond's win against Stanford. She led the team with two goals, including the game-winner, in the Spiders' 4-1 victory against William & Mary, Richmond's first since 1993. As a midfielder, van Bogerijen has started all five of Richmond's games.
As co-Rookie of the Week, Ciccarelli (South Bury, Conn.) eclipsed his personal best time by almost 90 seconds in the men's 8k run with a time of 25:12.00. He was the first Spider to cross the finish line and earned tenth overall to lead the men to a fifth place finish in the invitational.
Rookie of the Week accomplishments went to Russell (North Bay, Ontario, Canada), who finished fifth overall, in her first-ever collegiate women's 5k in 18:09.80 minutes.
Webber (Sayville, N.Y.) was named the Atlantic 10 Women's Performer of the Week after finishing fourth in the invitational at the 18:01.01 mark. She led the team to a third place final in the invitational, ahead of 20th-ranked University of Virginia.
