KINGSTON, R.I. - The 11th-ranked Richmond field hockey team dominated its match Saturday afternoon at Rhode Island, pushing its win streak to seven games with a 3-0 shutout in Kingston, R.I. The Spiders improve to 13-2 overall and 5-0 in the Atlantic 10 Conference, while the Rams drop to 4-12 and 1-4 in the A-10.
Junior Holly Cram put the Spiders up early with Richmond's quickest goal of the season. The Glasgow, Scotland native scored the eventual game-winner at the 30 second mark on an unassisted goal. Four minutes later she put Richmond up 2-0 on a penalty corner. Junior Michelle La Force provided the assist on Cram's second score, marking her sixth assist of the season.
"I thought we played a good game," head coach Ange Bradley said. "I thought we handled it (grass playing surface) well and made the adjustments needed."
After a 2-0 lead at the half Richmond's senior Laura Hur added the Spiders' third goal in the 67th minute. For Hur, it was the second time this season she found the back of the net.
"We weren't able to attack like we normally would on turf," Bradley added. "Our defense was great and got the shutout."
Swartz, who secured her seventh shutout of the season, now has 52 saves on the season.
Richmond continues its road trip, tomorrow, Oct. 24, at UMass. The Spiders take on the Minutewomen at noon. Logon to the Richmond Athletics webpage for livestat action via Gametracker.
