No. 11 Spiders Hit Road For Atlantic 10 Openers

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The No. 11 Spider Field Hockey squad will look to continue two conference win streaks this weekend in Philadelphia, Pa. Richmond will take on Temple (5-5) Saturday at noon then a day later, Sunday, face Saint Joseph's (6-4) at 2 p.m.
The Spiders, 8-2 heading into the weekend, have won their last 13 regular season conference contests dating back to the last match of 2001. Richmond's other conference win streak, which includes A-10 Tournament matches, is 16 games dating back to the beginning of the 2002 Atlantic 10 season.
Junior Holly Cram has come alive in Richmond's last two games scoring two goals. The Glasgow, Scotland, native now leads the team and A-10 Conference with 10 goals and her 22 points leads the Spiders and ranks second in the conference. She also is ranked 16th in the nation in goals and 20th in the country in points per game.
Junior Michelle Swartz, this week's A-10 Co-Player of the Week, has been perfect in goal over the last 175 minutes of play. The Severna Park, Md., native last allowed a goal in the first half of Richmond's loss at No. 8 Old Dominion, Sept. 24. Swartz currently leads the conference and ranks fourth in the country with a goals-against average of 0.90.
Richmond is undefeated against the Owls in the all-time series dating back to 1998. The Spiders have limited Temple to six goals in the seven-game series and have won all four series games played at Temple by a combined score of 11-4.
The Spiders have a 6-4 advantage in the all-time series with Saint Joseph's since the 1986 season. Richmond, winners of the last two played in Philly, have outscored the Hawks, 10-0 in a win streak which dates back to the 2002 season.
