Field Hockey Announces Incoming Class

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond athletic department and field hockey team announced five student-athletes signed national letters of intent to join the Spiders team for the 2004 season. They include Erin Arthur (Madison, N.J.), Tara Kelly (Gulph Mills, Pa.), Ashley Loh (Poolesville, Md.), Bethany Martin (Chevy Chase, Md.) and Shannon Taylor (Midlothian, Va.).
Arthur, a four-year letterwinner at Madison High School, served as the team captain and was named the MVP her senior year. The four-year varsity starter was selected to the All-State AP Poll first team and chosen as the Morris County Player of the Year by both the Daily Record and Star Ledger in 2003.
A midfielder from Villa Maria Academy, Kelly was a four-year letterwinner and served as captain her senior season. She totaled 35 goals and 58 assists in her career and was named All-League, All-Area and All-State her junior and senior years.
Loh, a forward/midfielder, was a three-year varsity letterwinner from Poolesville High School. She was named the team captain and Most Valuable Player in 2003. Loh tallied a career-high 13 assists in 2003 and was a three-time All-Region first team and All-Mid Maryland first team selection.
Martin, a midfielder from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School, was a three-year letterwinner and received her team's Coaches Award in 2002 and 2003. Martin helped lead her team to the 2003 3A State Finals and was an honorable mention selection by the Washington Post in 2003.
A forward/midfielder from James River High School, Taylor was a four-year letterwinner and 2003 team captain. She was also a two-time All-District first team and All-Region first team selection. Taylor was named the Regional Player of the Year in 2003 and co-Regional Player of the Year in 2002.
"I am very excited about this year's incoming class," head coach Ange Bradley said. "They are a talented group of athletes and I expect them to contribute to the growth of this program."
