No. 11 Spiders Continue Busy Stretch

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond Field Hockey continues its busiest stretch of the season this weekend when it plays consecutive games Saturday and Sunday. The Spiders' first head to College Park, Md., Saturday to face No. 13 American (4-2) at 2 p.m. then return to Crenshaw Field Sunday for a 2 p.m. contest against Towson (1-5).
The Spiders, 5-0 heading into the weekend, recently defeated No. 10 Virginia, 2-1, at Crenshaw Field Wednesday. Junior Allie Howard provided the go-ahead goal, her second score of the season, in the early portions of the first half. UVA tied the game midway through the second half before freshman Shannon Taylor notched the first game-winner of her career to put the Spiders in front.
Junior Michelle Swartz, the Spiders' leader between the pipes, stopped four Cavalier attempts to pick up her fifth consecutive win of the season. The Severna Park, Md., native has a goals-against average of 0.77 and a save percentage of .842 heading into the weekend.
Richmond, winners of 13 of its last 14 regular season games dating back to last season, hold a 15-9 all-time mark against American and an 11-2 series record versus Towson. The Spiders are 6-2 in their last eight against the Eagles, including a current three-game win streak. Richmond has won four-straight against the Tigers, outscoring them 11-1.
