UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond women's lacrosse head coach Sue Murphy has announced that Amy Altig will serve as her assistant coach for the 2006 season. Altig fills the position recently vacated by the departure of former Spider standout Carrie Aitken Bush.
"I am thrilled to have Amy as our top assistant coach as I have witnessed her commitment to the sport while working with her on the U.S. Lacrosse Developmental Team," Murphy stated. "Amy comes with a wealth of playing experience as one of the top goalies in the country. I look forward to having her on staff as she brings tremendous energy and a strong competitive edge."
"It was great to have Carrie come back to Richmond to serve as a coach. Her presence as a both coach and an alum was truly beneficial to our successful season. I would like to thank her for the commitment to our program as wish her well with her life endeavors with husband, Dave."
A four-year starter in the goal for James Madison, Altig served as team tri-captain as a senior and earned All-CAA second team honors in both 2003 and 2004. This past season, she ranked 20th in the nation in save percentage (.514) and as a junior, finished 13th in GAA (8.7). Altig spent two years with the U.S. Lacrosse Developmental Team and was captain of the 2004 U.S. Lacrosse Divisional Champion Mid-Atlantic 2 team.
She recently competed in the 2005 Senior All-Star Lacrosse game and was one of three Dukes' players to represent the South team. Following her senior campaign, Altig received the Comeback Athlete of the Year Award, an honor presented annually by the James Madison Department of Sports Medicine.
She graduated from James Madison in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and business.
The Millersville, Maryland native earned Team MVP honors at Archbishop Spalding High School following her senior year and holds the program mark for career save percentage.
