Women's Tennis Wins Fourth Straight Match

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The University of Richmond women's tennis team earned its fourth-straight win as it stomped Charleston Southern, 6-1, on Wednesday afternoon in Charleston, S.C. Freshman Ashlee Vosters went undefeated in yesterday's action as the Spiders improved to 5-5.
Jessica Hubbard paired up at the No. 1 doubles spot to take down Tazi and Frazi despite playing with slight injuries, while Beatrice Grasu and Robin Carter took no mercy with their 8-0 victory over Bair and Kutuk. Pamela Duran and Vosters also shut out Finkelstein and Mansur, 8-0, to secure the doubles point for the Spiders.
The Spiders then continued their winning ways into singles' action where they swept the No. 1-5 singles matches. Duran led the Spiders after breezing through a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Tazi at the No. 1 spot and Grasu came up with a win (6-0, 6-4) over Franzi at the No. 2 position. Carter earned a 6-2, 6-3 win over Kutuk at the No. 3 position, while Xenia Schneider and Vosters followed with dominating wins over Bair and Hargreaves at the No. 4 and 5 spots, respectively. Although Jelena Zivanovic fought hard at No. 6, she lost a heartbreaking 5-7, 6-3, (14-12) match to Heard.
Richmond head coach Mark Wesselink was extremely happy with the way his team has been playing and the turnaround of the season. "Winning these last four matches has been huge for us," stated Wesselink. "It's important for the team to pull together and get these wins. We've been playing solid tennis lately and I hope to see this momentum carry us through the season."

The Spiders return to action on March 11 with a tough match with UNC Chapel Hill at 10 a.m. "Saturday's match with UNC will be tough. We're training hard here and hopefully we'll be ready," concluded Wesselink.
