UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The 19th-ranked Richmond Spider Field Hockey squad, 5-4 on the season, will play back-to-back non-conference games this weekend. The Spiders will host Radford at 1 p.m., at Crenshaw Field Saturday, Sept. 30, then welcome Davidson to the Capital City at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 1.
Richmond, which got a two-goal effort from freshman Lindsey Conrad in its 5-3 loss to No. 8 Virginia earlier in the week, is marching toward the Atlantic 10 season which begins next weekend. Junior Shannon Taylor has scored a team-best nine goals on the season and logged 21 points in the Spiders' nine games. The Midlothian, Va., native continues to climb the Richmond record book, ranking fourth on the all-time career points list with 91. Her 31 career goals are fifth-best all-time for the Spiders, while her 17 assists place her tied for ninth on the all-time ledger.
The Spiders trail in the all-time series with Radford, 9-10, which dates back to the 1982 season. Even though it trails in the all-time series, Richmond has outscored the Highlanders, 33-27, in their 19 meetings, and owns a two-game win streak dating back to the 2001 season. Richmond holds a 6-2-1 all-time mark against Davidson which includes wins in each of the last four meetings. The Spiders blanked the Wildcats in the most recent meeting at Crenshaw Field, 3-0, Sept. 20, 2002.
After the Spiders play both non-conference games at Crenshaw Field this weekend, they will have only three home games remaining on their regular-season schedule. The first two of those three will come next weekend when they host West Chester and La Salle to open the A-10 season. Friday's contest against West Chester, Oct. 6, is slated for 3:30 p.m., while the game against La Salle, Oct. 8, will begin at noon.
