Swim & Dive Duals Mason, Toronto on Friday

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - After a strong showing the last time out against William and Mary, the Richmond swimming & diving team continues its 2011-12 campaign on Friday when it travels to Fairfax, Va., to take on George Mason and Toronto at the Patriots' Jim McKay Natatorium at 6 p.m.

The Spiders had their versatility on full display the last time out on
Oct. 15 in a 163-117 rout of William and Mary in the friendly confines of the
Robins Center Natatorium. The squad swept the afternoon's first nine events and
finished the day with wins in 14 of the meet's 16 events.
Sophomore Mali Kobelja (Fort Wayne, Ind./R. Nelson Snider) was named Atlantic 10 Women's Performer of the Week following her five individual wins, including victories in the 100 and 200 breast against the Tribe, to open the season. Senior Charlotte Brackett (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) was also a multiple-event winner at the meet, capturing top honors in both the 100 and 200 free, as was sophomore Jessie Krebs (Towson, Md./Towson) in the 500 and 1000 free.
Junior Lauren Hines (Roanoke, Va./Hidden Valley) claimed victory in the 100 back, while classmate Mina Vucic (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) followed suit in the 50 free.
The Spider rookies have opened the season in strong fashion as well. Allison Titley (Richmond, Va./Saint Gertrude) paced the field in the 200 fly and diver Katherine Cook (Kenilworth, Ill./New Trier) recorded wins on both boards.
A-10 TOP
TIMES
Several Spiders have turned in top times in the A-10 this season.
Brackett leads the league with a 24.09 in the 50 free with Vucic (24.15) and
Hines (24.34) rounding out the event's top three. Krebs paces the A-10 in both
the 500 free (5:03.17) and 1000 free (10:18.85), and senior Alexi Kuska (Westfield,
N.J./Westfield Senior) currently ranks second in both events
(5:05.70/10:28.34).
Kobelja has turned in conference-best times in an impressive four events this season. She owns top touches in the 100 breast (1:05.79), 200 breast (2:22.10), 200 IM (2:04.80) and 400 IM (4:26.33).
SCOUTING
THE PATRIOTS
Mason dropped a 145-143 heartbreaker to Delaware in its season-opener
on Oct. 15. Senior standout Ashley Danner and freshman Julianne Phillips each
captured three events to pace the Patriots in the Colonial Athletic Association
(CAA) battle. Danner touched in for wins in the 100 breast (1:02.67), 200
breast (2:17.35) and 200 IM (2:06.25). In her first collegiate meet, Phillips captured
victories in the 100 free (53.88), 200 free (1:54.75) and 500 free (5:06.69).
Senior Ali-Marie Murphy swept the day's diving events, recording a win on the 1-meter with a score of 216.97 and posting a 226.26 to follow suit on the 3-meter.
