The Spiders open their 2011 schedule against St. Francis Saturday at Ohio University and continue play with the Bobcats Sunday.
"I am eager to see the team at full force opening weekend," said head coach Gina Lucido. "Practicing away from home while our turf is being finished has served to provide greater focus. This Spider team has diligently worked on technical play since last spring and possesses a spirit of unity and strength. I think many of our returning players are ready to make a statement at the start of our season."
Richmond received votes (15 points) in the latest 2011 Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I Preseason Poll as announced this week by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA).
The Spiders were tabbed to finish second in the A-10 behind defending champion Massachusetts. Richmond returns All Conference selection Katelin Peterson as well as reigning A-10 Rookie of the Year Chelsea Davies. All-Rookie selection Anna Zarkoski also returns.
The Spiders open their home slate Sept. 17 against rival James Madison at the newly renovated Crenshaw Field.
