CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Richmond had its five-game win streak snapped as it fell to Xavier, 76-60, Wednesday night at the Cintas Center.
Hot-shooting Xavier buried 32-of-51 of its shots for a 62.7 percent clip from the field. The Musketeers made 15-of-22 baskets (68.2%) in the second half.
Xavier led by nine at the break, 38-29, serving Richmond with its first halftime deficit since Jan. 25 (The Spiders trailed at Dayton). Richmond got to within 40-33 after an Abby Oliver layup but could not stop the Musketeers' penetration inside.
The Musketeers countered with a 6-0 run and kept Richmond at bay the rest of the game.
Xavier scored 38 points in the paint, a season-high given up by the Spiders. The Musketeers were led by Tyeasha Moss' 26 points, the most point production from an opponent all season. Three other Musketeers scored in double-figures.
Richmond was led by Abby Oliver's 20 points. Oliver has now amassed 1,406 points, moving her past Amber Goppert for seventh place on Richmond's all-time scoring list.
Kristina King scored nine off the bench, while Rachael Bilney scored eight points and dished a career-high eight assists. The eight assists also ties a Spider season-high set by Becca Wann in a win over Boston University.
The Spiders dropped their ninth in a row against Xavier, while falling to 20-6, 7-4 overall.
Richmond plays Fordham Sunday for senior day at 2 p.m. in the Robins Center. Oliver and Richmond team managers Robert Drewry and Steve Rachman will be recognized. Sunday is Richmond's Play4Kay game, and fans are encouraged to wear pink in honor of breast cancer awareness.
