10/18/2013 | Field Hockey
UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond field hockey team rolled Atlantic 10 newcomer Saint Francis, 6-1, Friday afternoon at Crenshaw Field.
Six different Spiders scored as Richmond won its fourth-straight. It was the second-straight game Richmond (9-5, 2-0) has beat an A-10 opponent by five goals.
“It was exciting to start out as well as we did,” said head coach Gina Lucido. “In the game's first 15 minutes, we established a presence and capitalized with a couple of goals. It's really been a focus of the team to have a really strong attacking presence. We've been working a lot on it. To come out two games in a row and have that switch on is significant and something we're going to have to have to go the distance in the Tournament.”
Emma Johansson scored the game's first goal off an assist from Chelsea Davies less than two minutes into the contest. Rebecca Barry would follow with her team-leading 11th score five minutes later.
Taylor Deitrick scored unassisted in the game's 10th minute when she lasered a shot past the keeper into the bottom left part of the goal. Junior Emma Pohle scored her first collegiate goal when she hit a deflection shot off an assist from Barry.
Kelly Quinn would boost the Spider lead to 5-0 when she scored off an assist from Jessica Hollis in the game's 15th minute. Amy Cooke added an unassisted goal in the game's 68th minute to make bolster the lead to the eventual final, 6-1.
Selena Adamshick provided the lone goal for the Red Flash (6-5, 1-1).
Richmond dominated play from start to finish as it outshot Saint Francis, 19-9. Johansson had a team-high four shots.
Richmond held Saint Francis to its lowest point total since Sept. 15, and snapped the Red Flash's three-game win-streak.
The Spiders start a three-game road swing at Saint Louis Sunday at noon.
