Zarkoski Named NCAA Statistical Champion

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – Senior goalkeeper Anna Zarkoski of the Richmond field hockey team has been recognized as a NCAA Statistical Champion for the 2013 Field Hockey season.
This season Zarkoski led the nation with a .824 save percentage as she rewrote the Richmond record book as she finished a stellar career between the pipes. This is the second NCAA Statistical Champion award for Zarkoski in three years.
“This award affirms our belief that Anna is one of the most gifted goalies in stopping shots,” commented head coach Gina Lucido. “She has earned this award for a second time in three years, truly leaving her mark as one of the best during her career. Our team defense takes much pride in the total strength of our defensive front and being at the top of an elite group.”
The Norristown, Pa., native finished her career tied for first in goals against average (1.16) and third in save percentage (.762) all-time at Richmond. She also recorded 84 saves and seven shutouts this season. Prior to her First Team honor, Zarkoski, was placed on the All-American Third Team in 2011. Zarkoski was also placed on the All-South Region First Team, All-Atlantic 10 First Team and was also selected to represent Richmond on the NFHCA Senior Game following this season.
The Spiders earned team statistical honors after leading Division I in save percentage (.819) and goals against average (0.86).
