Spider Hockey Selected To Finish Second In A-10

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Richmond field hockey team was selected to finish second in the Atlantic 10 Conference in a vote conducted by the league's head coaches that was announced Thursday afternoon.
The Spiders return NFCA All-American Rebecca Barry who led the squad with 40 points last season on 16 goals and eight assists. First-Team All-Atlantic 10 selection Amy Cooke will anchor a Spider defense that led the nation in goals against average (0.86) and save percentage (.819) in 2013.
Richmond welcomes five freshman to this years squad, after graduating five veterans that helped the Spiders to its fifth A-10 Championship game under head coach Gina Lucido, who enters her eighth season.
In addition to Richmond being picked second, Barry, Cooke and senior midfielder Samantha Ostoich were selected to the 2014 A-10 Preseason All-Conference team.
The Spiders, who are the host for the 2014 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship, open the season next Friday, Aug. 29 at American University at 3 p.m.
