Chiulli Captures Second A-10 Performer Of The Week
01/13/2015 | Women's Swimming & Diving
Already holding the highest score in the Atlantic 10 Conference from the 1m springboard, Richmond sophomore diver Irina Chiulli (Westwood, Massachusetts) beat that one and then also set the high score in the 3m springboard, putting up an NCAA Zone-qualifying score in both events over the weekend to capture her second Atlantic 10 Conference Swimming and Diving Performer of the Week award, the league announced today.
Chiulli won the award previously on November 25 after scoring 275.85 in the 3m and 273.25 in the 1m at the Patriot Invitational.
Saturday, at a dual meet with Virginia Tech, Chiulli posted a mark of 294.4 in the 3m and scored 277.3 in the 1m. Both boar scores qualified her for NCAA Zones later this year, though she had already posted a qualifying mark on the 1m in November. She extended both marks to obtain the season-high in both events by any diver in the Atlantic 10 this season.
Counting two Performers of the Week awards by Chiulli, this is the fifth time a Spider has collected a weekly A-10 award. Freshman Annie Lane (Vinton, Virginia / William Byrd HS) won Rookie Performer of the Week on October 14 and November 11, while freshman Erin Barry (Millington, N.J.) took that rookie accolade on October 21.
