UR Swimmers Sweep A-10 Weekly Honors
01/27/2015 | Women's Swimming & Diving
Richmond swimming and diving swept this week's Atlantic 10 Conference's weekly awards, the league announced Tuesday. Senior Anna Fetter (Westfield, New Jersey) and freshman Annie Lane (Vinton, Virginia / William Byrd HS) took the A-10 Swimming and Diving Female Performer and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Fetter helped post 25 of Richmond's 123 points Saturday on Senior Day in a home meet against James Madison. She swam one leg of the 400 Medley relay team that took first for the squad and individually scored points in three other events she raced. She won the 100 Fly with a time of 56.02, a season-best time and the eighth fastest by an A-10 swimmer this season. She also finished third in the 200 Fly with another season-best, 2:07.60, while finishing fourth in the 200 IM (2:11.02) in her final home meet at Richmond.
Lane set a personal-best time of 5:01.11 in the 500 Free to win that event and she scored in all four events in which she appeared Saturday in the final home Richmond swimming and diving meet of the year. It was the third-best time in that event by any freshman in the A-10 this season. She also swam a leg of the 400 Medley Relay, which also took first place at the meet. Lane took second in the 100 Breast, with a season-best time of 1:05.16, third-best by an A-10 freshman this season, and helped the team to a third-place finish in the 200 Free relay.
This is the third Performer of the Week and fifth Rookie of the Week that the Spiders have captured this season. Lane has twice won the weekly rookie honor, on 10/14 and 11/11, with swimmer Erin Barry (Millington, New Jersey) winning on 10/21 and diver Laura Rokop (Carmel, Indiana) taking the award last week, 1/20.
Sophomore diver Irina Chiulli (Westwood, Massachusetts) has twice won Performer of the Week for the Spiders, on 11/25 and 1/13.
Richmond travels to Philadelphia this Friday for its final dual meet of the season, at Villanova, starting at noon. The Spiders will then spend the next several weeks preparing for the Atlantic 10 Championships, which take place again in Geneva, Ohio, starting Wednesday, Feb. 18.
