Richmond diving posted a win and a tie in their double-dual meet, defeating Clemson 20-18 and tying East Carolina 19-19 at the Greensboro Aquatics Center Saturday morning.
"The divers put forth a great effort today,” said UR head diving coach Sean Letsinger. “I saw a lot of positive technique changes that are critical at this point in the season. Now we have to work on executing our dives better going forward. I look forward to a few weeks of training in Richmond before our trip to Fairfax."
In the 1m event, Richmond junior Irina Chiulli (Westwood, Massachusetts) had the top score of all divers, at 263.20, less than two points from the NCAA Zones qualifying standard. She finished second to ECU's Ashley Sams on the 3m springboard. Chiulli posted a 280.40, which was over the Zone qualifying standard. She was the top scorer in the meet versus Clemson.
Sophomore Laura Rokop (Wildwood, Missouri) finished third in the ECU meet with a score of 236.95, her second-best score from the 1m springboard for the season. Rokop scored 234.35 in the 3m event.
Junior Mikaela Gekas-Robinson (Woodbury, New Jersey) put together a 228.90 program in the 3m. On the 1m springboard, she posted a 182.95 score.
The Spider divers will join the swimmers for the three-day Patriot Invitational, starting Thursday, November 19.
