Richmond women's lacrosse swept its weekend at home to open the Atlantic 10 Conference schedule with a 13-6 win over Saint Joseph's Sunday at Robins Stadium. Richmond sits at 5-6 on the season, but is 2-0 in the A-10 standings. Saint Joseph's is 5-5 overall, 0-2 in the A-10.
The Spiders got a career-high-tying four goals from senior Bailey Zerr (Denver, Colorado) and one of the best games of the year from senior goalie Emily Boyce (Middletown, Maryland), who produced 10 saves in the win.
Richmond scored the first four goals of the game and was never threatened. Zerr scored first at the 23:46 mark on the first of a career-high four assists from freshman Kim Egizi (Westwood, Massachusetts). The Spiders scored twice in the 21st minute, with Zerr and Egizi hooking up a second time with 9:11 in the first half.
The Hawks scored twice in a row as the half wound down, but with seven seconds in the period, Zerr was fouled trying to score and was awarded a free position shot, which she scored on to push the score to 5-2 at the half.
Richmond had a pair of 3-0 goal runs in the second half to break open the game.
UR won two-thirds of the draws (14-7), with freshman Caroline Queally (Riverside, Connecticut) controlling five along with Zerr's five.
Egizi finished with a goal with her four assists for a team-high five points. Senior Emily Doyle (Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey) had three goals and an assist. The assist was her 93rd for her four-year career, tying her with Mandy Friend (2006-09) for the program's all-time mark.
Boyce's season record mirrors the UR record of 5-6.
The Hawks got a pair of goals from Kelly Phelan and Katelyn Ambrose, with goalie Nora McGeever logging 10 saves in the loss (5-5).
The Spiders will play the second game of a home doubleheader with the men next Saturday. The men will host Furman at 1:30 p.m. in a Southern Conference home game. The women host new A-10 member Davidson, with the first draw starting at 5 p.m. There is free admission for all lacrosse at Robins Stadium.
