UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spiders split a doubleheader with the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Saturday afternoon at the newly-renovated Pitt Field.

Richmond won the first game, 4-2, before falling to the Pioneers, 9-1, in the second game. With the split, Richmond's record moves to 18-10 on the season, while Sacred Heart's improves to 7-18-1 on the year.

In game one, RHP Ryan Cook (5-1) was terrific for the Spiders, pitching eight terrific innings to earn the win. The senior allowed just two runs on three hits, while striking out six. RHP Ray Harron worked a scoreless ninth inning to notch his fourth save of the year.

Offensively in game one, 2B Daniel Brumbaugh and SS Tyler Beckwith each had a hit and a RBI, while both OF Jansen Fraser and DH Kyle Adams had two hits.

In game two, freshman RHP Brendan McGuigan (2-1) took the hard-luck loss for the Spiders, tossing 5.1 innings. McGuigan struck out a career-high eight batters, surrendering three runs but only one of which was earned.

Offensively in game two, Fraser had a sacrifice fly to account for the lone Richmond run, while 1B Doug Kraeger had a hit and scored a run.

The Richmond Spiders will conclude its three-game series with Sacred Heart on Sunday at Pitt Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
