Spider Baseball Falls To Kentucky At UNCW Tournament

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond Spiders baseball team fell to the Sacred Heart Pioneers, 8-7, on Sunday afternoon at the newly renovated Pitt Field.

With the loss, Richmond falls to 18-11 on the season, while Sacred Heart improves to 8-18-1 on the year.

Offensively, OF Jansen Fraser led the Spiders, batting 2-for-4 with a triple, double and two RBI. 3B Matt Dacey hit his Atlantic 10-leading ninth homer of the season, while OF Tanner Stanley, OF Michael Morman and C Aaron Newman all drove in runs for the Spiders in the setback.

On the mound, RHP Ray Harron (2-1) took the loss for Richmond, allowing just one run in two innings pitched.

Richmond jumped out early on the Pioneers on Sunday afternoon, taking a 7-3 lead after three complete innings. Sacred Heart would score the game's final five runs, however, taking their first lead of the game with a run in the top of the ninth.

In the bottom half, DH Kyle Adams singled with two outs to put the tying run on base, but the Richmond rally ended there, as Sacred Heart induced a game-ending fly out to secure the win.

The Richmond Spiders will be back in action on Tuesday, when the team plays host to in-state rival James Madsion at the newly renovated Pitt Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
