FAIRFAX, Va. -- Despite two goals each from senior Anna Jeszeck (Cortlandt Manor, New York) and junior Charlett Stevenson (Darien, Connecticut), Richmond women's lacrosse suffered its first A-10 loss of the season at George Mason 8-5 Sunday afternoon. The loss ends the Spiders' four-game win streak and levels their season record to 7-7 overall, 4-1 in the A-10. Mason is 8-5, 3-2 in A-10 games.
Jeszeck got the Spiders on the board first with a goal just 63 seconds into the game, but the Patriots scored the next three.
Then Stevenson scored her two goals, just three minutes apart, midway through the opening half for a three-all tie, which held to halftime. The Spiders held a 10-5 advantage in shots in the opening half.
Like they did in the first half, the Spiders scored the first goal of the second inside of two minutes, when senior Emily Doyle (Ho-Ho-Kus, New jersey) posted her team-leading 24th goal of the season just 80 seconds into play.
Mason tied the game a little more than four minutes later, but Jeszeck scored again just inside of 23 minutes remaining in regulation on what was the Spiders' last goal of the game.
The Patriots scored the last four goals of the game to pull away and get the home win.
Richmond outshot the Patriots 23-15 in the contest.
Senior goalie Emily Boyce (Middletown, Maryland) was credited with four saves in the contest, dropping her record to 7-7 for the season. She now has 101 saves for the season and 307 for her four-year career. She has breached 100 saves twice in the past three seasons at UR.
The Spiders will next play Sunday in the home finale against Duquesne, starting at 1 p.m.
