DAVIDSON, N.C. – The University of Richmond Spiders baseball team fell on the road at Davidson on Thursday night, 4-3.

With the loss, Richmond falls to 26-22 on the season overall and to 14-8 in Atlantic 10 play. With the victory, Davidson improves to 25-9 on the year and to 13-9 in league action.

Despite the loss, the Spiders remain in a three-way tie for first place in the conference with losses by both Saint Louis and Rhode Island on Thursday.

OF Tanner Stanley led the offensive charge for the Spiders, batting 2-for-4 with a double, a RBI and two runs scored. 1B Doug Kraeger had a hit and a RBI, while 3B Matt Dacey had a double.

RHP Ryan Cook pitched well for the Spiders in the start, tossing seven innings. The senior allowed just one run on three hits while striking out nine.

After a scoreless first inning, Richmond took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Leading off, Dacey doubled off the wall in right-center field to get in to scoring position. Stanley followed, plating Dacey with a RBI single to right field. Two batters later with Stanley on third base, the junior was able to score when the Wildcat second baseman committed a fielding error.

In the top of the fourth, Stanley led off the frame with a double and moved to third on a single from OF Kyle Adams. Kraeger followed, scoring Stanley with a RBI single through the left side of the infield to make the Richmond lead to 3-0.

Davidson would rally, however, scoring the game's next four runs to take a 4-3 lead in to the ninth inning.

In the top of the ninth, DH Kurtis Brown drew a leadoff walk, but Richmond was unable to plate the game-tying run, falling on the road, 4-3.

The Richmond Spiders baseball team will continue its three-game, Atlantic 10 series with Davidson on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
