Women's Tennis Completes Weekend Slate At UMBC
09/28/2015 | Women's Tennis
BALTIMORE, Md. – The University of Richmond women's tennis team competed in its second event of the fall at UMBC this weekend, playing three matches opposite Villanova, Delaware and UMBC.
"It was nice to play a tournament in more of a team format," head coach Mark Wesselink added. "I liked our chemistry and support. The freshman were able to battle through some nerves and pull out some nice wins. Kuse and Ramirez both played at a very high level. Boys was also impressive after a lengthy lay-off due to injuries. Brittany is not even 100% yet and looked as sharp as I've seen her."
Opposite Delaware Bella Kuse, Brittany Boys, Kelsey Williams and Katya Salas all picked up singles victories. Gaby Rosales added a victory of her own over Tori Smyth of Villanova. Williams was the lone Spider to score a pair of singles victories.
On the doubles court Richmond went unbeaten for the weekend. Brittany Boys and Bella Kuse defeated a team from Villanova, 6-2, 6-0. Gaby Rosales and Ana Ramirez knocked off their opponents from Delaware, 6-4, 2-9, 11-9 and the team of Katya Salas and Brittany Boys handled the team of Alice Taylor and Charlotte Tonjann of UMBC, 4-6, 7-6 (7), 10-4.
Richmond will be back in action Oct. 9-11 at the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C. Then the team will head to the Atlantic Region Singles Championships in Lynchburg, Va. Oct. 15-18 to conclude the fall slate.
