Spiders Fall at #1 Duke, 6-0
10/29/2016 | Field Hockey
DURHAM, N.C. – Head Coach Gina Lucido believes in challenging her team. Saturday's non-conference finale was no different, as the University of Richmond field hockey team squared off with the number one team in the country, the Duke Blue Devils.
Despite a battle, the Spiders dropped a 6-0 decision at the hands of the #1 Blue Devils.
Duke (15-2) took a 1-0 lead a little over ten minutes into the game as Robin Blazing found the back of the cage on a diving touch. The Blue Devils added four more goals before closing out the first half with a 5-0 advantage.
Senior Kelly Quinn looked for a chance to put Richmond (7-10) on the board, but the ball cleared the line going just wide of the cage.
The top-ranked Blue Devils tacked on a goal in the second half from Caroline Andretta to extend their lead, 6-0.
Junior Amanda Hoyt registered six saves in goal.
The Spiders will make a quick trip home to Crenshaw Field to close out the 2016 regular season with Saint Louis tomorrow afternoon at noon. Prior to tomorrow's game the team's four seniors, Emma Johansson, Kelly Quinn, Maria Madsen and Laetitia Commeyne, will be honored.
