SPIDERS AND THE ATLANTIC 10 TOURNAMENT
Richmond makes its 15th consecutive Atlantic 10 Tournament. The Spiders have appeared in 12 titles and have won the tournament eight times since joining the league in 2002. Richmond and UMass have dominated the A-10 Tournament in the last 20 years, as one of the two schools have won the title every year since 1996, and both teams have met in the title game a total of nine times.
ALL CONFERENCE NODS
Five Spiders earned All-Conference nods, the league office announced. Senior Kelly Quinn, junior Megan Miller, and sophomore Thalia Williamson landed on the First Team while freshmen Amanda DaSilva and Abby Lyons earned All-Rookie honors.
THANK YOU SENIORS
The Spider seniors - Emma Johansson, Maria Madsen, Laetitia Commeyne, and Kelly Quinn, play their final game at Crenshaw Field on Sunday. As a class, they post a record of 46-35 with a 25-6 mark in Atlantic 10 Conference action. Prior to this year's tournament, the Spiders have played in the A-10 Championship game the last three years winning the tournament title in 2014 to advance to the NCAA Tournament.
SEEING DOUBLE
If you think you're seeing double on the field this season, you sort of are. The Spiders have two sets of twins on the team - both sets are freshmen. Richmond welcomed Hannah Loos and Jessica Loos from San Diego, Calif., and Amanda DaSilva and Kaitlyn DaSilva from New Vernon, N.J. this season.
MILLER AND THE JUNIOR U.S. NATIONAL TEAM
This summer, a dream came true for junior Megan Miller as she was named to the U.S. U-21 Women's National Team. The Palmyra, Pa. native competed for Team USA at the Pan-Am Games in Trinidad and Tobago.
PRESEASON FAVORITES & HONORS
Richmond received 76 total points and four first-place votes to be picked as the preseason A-10 favorite. The Spiders led the way with Massachusetts a close second with 73 total votes as they also had four first-place votes, while Saint Joseph's (64) rounded out the top three.
The duo of senior Kelly Quinn and junior Megan Miller were named to the league's preseason team.
Quinn is the top returning scorer from a season ago. The senior scored a team-best seven goals and 17 points, ranking fifth in league-only stats in points. Her shot percentage of .467 was also a team-high as Quinn scored three game-winning goals for the Spiders. Miller was a fixture for the Spiders in her sophomore season, and continues to be a vital piece of Richmond's attack. She started all 21 games with a goal in the season opener and three assists.
NEW SPIDERS
In the offseason, head coach Gina Lucido and the Spiders welcomed 10 freshmen to a squad that went 12-9 last season, with a 7-1 mark in conference play. The newcomers hail from six different states, and only two have roots in the Commonwealth.
The Atlantic 10 Championship game is slated for Saturday, November 5 at Cary Street Field. The winner of Saint Joseph's-Lock Haven and Richmond-UMass will square off for the title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. That championship game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
